Dear Airshow Volunteer,
Thank you for volunteering to help produce the 2022 Edmonton International Airshow! You are part of over 100 volunteers who support the most thrilling two-day event in the Prairie region. We appreciate your time, talents and the effort you are contributing. We couldn’t do it without you!
We promise you two long, hot, exhausting days with the most fun and dedicated group of people you’ll ever meet. Did you know our community’s Airshow is far more than just an exciting weekend of family fun? The Edmonton International Airshow is a non-profit organization that does so much more.
The Airshow:
- Provides access to scholarships to students interested in science, technology, engineering, math, aviation, aeronautics and aerospace
- Benefits many other charitable organizations
- Serves our region’s veterans and shares their stories and experiences
- Honors Hometown Heroes and showcases our nation’s history and innovation
The Edmonton International Airshow was created to show gratitude for our region’s many industries that serve and enhance awareness for STEM in Aviation and Aerospace and to inspire and educate students. We hope you’ll enjoy the excitement and nostalgia of one of the greatest aviation events in Canada. With sincere thanks from the Airshow team, we couldn’t do this without you!
Friday August 12th 2022 – 10am to 12pm – General Training with Directors
Saturday, August 13th 2022 – 9:00 am to 5 pm
Sunday, August 14th 2022 – 9:00 am to 5 pm
Please keep in mind, this is an overview of all positions. Please list your top three requests for volunteer position.
Admission Gates
As an Airshow Ambassador, you will warmly greet all guests, scan tickets, help guests purchase online and provide general information as needed including performances and highlights along the ramp.
Autograph Tent
Representatives at this show center location assist guests in meeting and getting autographs from Airshow performers. You will also ensure performers are comfortable and have water, pens etc. for their signings.
VIP Chalet
Provide exceptional customer service to our VIP guests including valued sponsors, government and military officials. This hospitality role greets guests, checks credentials for admittance to the chalet, clears tables, picks up trash, keeps restrooms clean and tables and chairs orderly while being prepared to answer guest’s questions including performance details and highlights along the ramp.
Static Line Security
This security group, made up primarily of Civil Air Cadets, secures and protects the Static Display and responds to the direction of the Airboss in accordance with Transport Canada regulations.
Fly-In Aircraft Support
Assist fly-in aircraft to park in designated areas, check and sell tickets for admittance to the Airshow and provide general information to the pilots including performance details, aviation seminars and highlights along the ramp.
FOD Squad
This crucial role at the Airshow requires lots of walking along the ramp to ensure all debris (trash) is picked up and disposed of responsibly to prevent damage to sensitive jet aircraft intake systems while providing a quality guest experience.
Guest Services
Greet all guests as they enter the show and provide information including performance details, directions and highlights along the ramp. In addition, this team collects lost personal items for guests to retrieve.
Kids Zone
Deliver FUN for our youngest guests! Families are invited to this area for water, shade, supplies for bounce entertainment. Volunteers in this area will have a BLAST interacting with children of all ages!
Learning Tents
Assist several local organizations inspire the next generation to DREAM BIG! Volunteers in large tents will guide students and their families through an exploration of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, robotics, aerospace concepts with a variety of interactive activities and exhibits as well as providing a road map on how to get involved with youth organizations, clubs and fun, educational activities long after the show gates close!
Logistics
The strength, hard work and sweat of this volunteer group puts the whole Airshow together! This group begins their hard work prior to the Airshow, continues through the event and concludes the week following the Airshow when the airport returns to normal operation. This group utilizes golf carts, and some specialized equipment, so previous experience is ideal. Commitment to the full timeline is not necessary.
Performers Concierge
Provide exceptional customer service to our performers and their guests from across the continent. This hospitality role greets guests, ensures our valued performers have welcome packets, seats and passes, Smoke oil, fuel and any aircraft cleaning or basic items they may need. This Position also picks up trash, cleans restrooms and keep tables and chairs orderly while answering guest’s questions throughout the day including performance details as well as sharing the mission of the Airshow.
Photog Escort
Assist professional and amateur photographers from around the world who join us for 3 to 4 days to photograph performers and aircraft. This role not only ensures the safety of our photographers by keeping them in secured areas during the Airshow, it also provides top-notch hospitality throughout each day of their stay with us.
Ramp Security
SAFETY FIRST! This team assists Ground Ops to ensure the safety of our guests and performers by monitoring the Airshow ramp, aircraft and access points for any possible suspicious activity and preventing movement in unauthorized areas.
Volunteer Check-In
Warmly greet our dedicated and hardworking volunteers at the Airshow; ensure each volunteer has signed the liability waiver, distribute t-shirts, distribute lunch wristbands, direct the volunteer to the area they will be working and answer any questions.
